Why are these improvements needed?
The purpose and need of the project is to improve accessibility to South Stamford and capacity along Atlantic Street while simultaneously replacing a railroad bridge that was constructed in the late 19th century and requires regular maintenance to maintain a state of good repair. The proposed improvements will facilitate future development in South Stamford and enhance accessibility to the Stamford Transportation Center.
When will construction be complete?
The Phase 1 project which includes the relocation of I95 Northbound Exit 8 ramp is expected to last until June 2018. The Phase 2 project which includes the replacement of the railroad bridge is expected to begin Spring of 2017 and conclude in the Summer of 2020.
How will this project affect me?
Residents, commuters and visitors should expect temporary lane and/or shoulder closures during construction along project roadways. Pedestrians and cyclists can also expect implementation of temporary detours while construction is underway. There are times during construction in which it will be required to enact full closures of roadways including sidewalks the exact timing of these closures will be a function of the contractor’s progress and coordination with the City of Stamford officials. Information will be communicated through this web site, social media and news media.
Please continue to visit www.atlanticstreetbridge.com and social media for traffic alerts and detours.
