With the successful installation of the new Metro North/Atlantic Street Bridge, significant roadway construction involving multiple operations is already underway to improve the operational efficiencies of Atlantic Street. To increase the vertical clearance under the new bridge, the roadway will be lowered to offer higher clearance of 14’6”. At the same time, the roadway is being widened to accommodate 3 new northbound and 3 new southbound lanes, including dedicated turning lanes.

New sidewalks, pavement markings, illumination and brick pavers will complete the new look of Atlantic Street. In addition, all of the concrete fascia on the new abutments, retaining walls and center pier will be finished with a simulated stone masonry exterior to compliment the surrounding landscape.

The new bridge combined with the new horizontal and vertical geometry of Atlantic Street will facilitate future development in the South End, enhance accessibility to the Stamford Transportation Center and increase connectivity between the South End and Stamford’s downtown.

Detours, road closures and pedestrian detours remain in effect during this phase of construction which is expected to be complete in early September 2019.
